Bling for babies

When I first heard that bling dummies for baby were being banned I thought, oh good someone else thinks they’re as tacky as I do. I liken them to Ed Hardy or f**k off we’re full bumper stickers. Bogan.

Turns out they were banned for safety reasons, go figure.

Look I’m all for each to their own and parenting choices or whatever but seriously since when did it become trendy to turn kids into little Paris Hiltons and, well, I’m not really down with the kids, what’s the male equivalent?

Now I know not all parents are up in arms about gender sterotyping, and some may even think that girls playing with trucks is positively progressive, but there’s a difference between girls playing with dolls and girls playing beauty queen.

I can’t possibly be the only mother on the face of the earth not wanting to cover my child in fake tan and make up and push her out onto the run way.

And the lyrics to Cutie Patootie. Yuck!

Look, Eden Wood sure is cute but bloody hell, don’t bring your pageant crap here.

Mothers paying money for entry fees, formal wear, swim suits, costumes, photography, make up, hair… For toddlers? And claiming the tots enjoy it? My toddler enjoys licking her own snot and trying on everyone’s shoes.

How about letting kids be kids? How about saving bling for ball gowns not for babies? How about not living our our dreams through our children and claiming they enjoy it? How about not demanding trophies and wins of our children but simply loving them for who they are, not what we believe they should be able to achieve.
