Do You Want to Watch Cartoons?

Oh what was life without ABC4Kids?

DD has had a huge few days with my friend and her almost 4yo DS staying with us. They went out yesterday afternoon and I put ABC4Kids on for DD while she had a rest on the lounge and DS had a nap. I did the dishes, put on the washing and then noticed…. DD was fast asleep!

Some cartoons are better then others, and the Wiggly Waffle goes down a treat in my house. I don’t mind Dirtgirlworld, and her gardening tips are actually not half bad! I cannot stand Hilltop Hospital, cows giving their babies bottles and elephants having csections? It’s not exactly quality children’s viewing. And I could take or leave Nanigugu. Seasame Street is good for a bit of nostalgia. Playschool gives me some great ideas for crafts and songs.

Ive been thinking of ways to further stimulate her development. She has a sandpit now which is great for her sensory development, I’m getting her a tag junior for reading, I’m looking at doing more educational activities with her. We went to the aquarium the other day and she was just amazed by all the fish and turtles. I’m still looking for a good play group. I do miss the purple bubble in Sydney, I miss our community. But we’re building another for ourselves here.

I’m hoping the vegetable garden will become an educational endeavor for her as she gets older, she is a little young for it still.

With DS as he is just 4 months, simply involving him in day to day life is an educational experience for him. He has his bimbo, the bouncer and the ergo so he’s always around the action. I’m hoping he is taking it all in and learning as we go, at this early stage every minute is something new for him.

So in short, for us i try to limit TV, although some is okay and some shows are better then others, provide stimulating and fun activities while remembering that DD will find things to occupy herself if I don’t do it for her (although scribbling on the fridge door is not ideal it is still a learning experience for her) and involving the baby in every day life will provide him opportunities to explore his world.
